How to conduct domain search for the right domain name?

Domain Name Search
Domain Name Registration
web, a domain name is the window to one's identity in the virtual world. The numeric address of the computer resource is mapped onto a more user-friendly domain name that can be easily remembered with the help of the Domain Name Service (DNS). The domain name has a hierarchical representation in the DNS that includes root-level domain, top-level domain, second-level domain and a subdomain. The top-level domain is further divided into generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). It is the label after the dot at the right end of the domain name.

Selecting an appropriate domain name that reflects the brand or purpose is a must for ascertaining a strong online presence. There are a few points to be kept in mind when searching for a domain name, which are described as under:

  1. The domain name should be short and simple so that it is easy to remember.
  2. The extension to the domain must signify the type of business and location. It must not be selected based on the fact that it looks appealing to the user.
  3. Also, the domain names should be self explanatory, implying that target users are not confused with it or are having a hard time pronouncing and remembering it.

Domain search involves the use of various search tools like WHOIS or Instant Domain Search for checking the availability domain names. WHOIS is basically a query and response protocol that can be used to query databases consisting of registered users or Internet resource assignees. Instant Domain Search throws up available domain names even as the search text is being typed.

The domain name search should be carried out based on the target audience, content and redirecting traffic to the website. If the domain name being searched is available, the user needs to contact a domain registrar for registering the same for their use. There are many domain name registrars, who will carry out the task of processing the request of registration. The availability of the selected domain names can be checked on the website of the domain name registrars. Also, the authenticity of the domain name registrars must be established before moving ahead with the registration procedure. Ideally, people should go for a company accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to register their domain names. Once the domain name is available, and the choice of domain registrar is made, the wheels of the registration process are set in motion.
